Earlier this summer, I sat down with the always delightful Katrina Jackson to talk about what we were both up to. As it always does with us, the conversation inevitably got off course and turned towards romance genre scholarship and when was I going to write a book, etc, etc… I was talking about this year being the 30th anniversary of the launch of Arabesque as well as the publication of Beverly Jenkins’ first book, and Kat mentioned the word podcast and then we were off and running in a new direction!
A few weeks later, we’re happy to announce the launch of Black Romance Has A History, a podcast that will explore not only the history of Black romance novels and the people who made them, but also the publishing and real world environments they worked in. This season will focus on 1994, aka The Summer of Black Love. Kat (in her academic disguise as Dr. Nicole Jackson, historian of the Black diaspora) and I are excited to do this deep dive, and we can’t wait for you to listen.
This season will feature a lot of just the two of us talking, but we’ve also got some guests along for the ride. Kensington Publishing CEO Steven Zacharius will join us, as well as authors Margie Walker, Piper Huguley, Nicole Falls, and the one and only Beverly Jenkins.
Make sure to subscribe to the podcast on your favorite platform, or you can listen and follow along with the show notes on our website. We hope you enjoy it!
